Clinging to the northern side of the Bride Valley, with lovely views from the narrow, mostly unfenced road is the wonderfully positioned West Dorset hamlet of Chilcombe, official population 15.

The little church of St. Mary's is of Norman origins with 14th and 15th century alterations, all of which have been restored. There are some good 17th century monuments and chairs, and the odd wooden panel. The church shares a farmyard with a stone Georgian House.
