West Compton, also known locally as Compton Abbas is a remote hamlet at the end of a West Dorset country lane and should not be confused with Dorset's other Compton Abbas in the north of the county.

This tiny stone village has little of interest beyond it's little redundant Victorian Church, although the 'Big house' was used as the setting for the BBC adaptation of one of Agatha Christie's, Miss Marples novels. Most of the rest of the scenes being located in the picturesque village of Powerstock on the other side of Eggardon hill.
