Winterborne Stickland is situated in central Dorset on the edge of the Blackmore Vale about 5 miles from the Georgian town of Blandford Forum and 20 miles from the coastal resorts of Poole and Bournemouth.

The village is quite large, containing thatched cottages built from a variety of materials, interwoven with more modern houses including some Victorian villas. The village has a good pub, The Shire Horse, an excellent shop and a Post office

The church of St. Mary's has a late 15th or early 16th century tower. The body of the church is essentially 13th century with 18th century modifications.  In 1756 a 'tomb chamber' with doors was added to the north of the chancel to house a large sarcophagus.

There is good walking and many other points of interest in the area.
